Dr. Jones is a proud Kansas City, Kansas native and a product of the KCKPS system. He graduated from F.L. Schlagle High School in 1993. In 2012, he was inducted into the Reasons to Believe Alumni Honor Roll. In 2017, Dr. Jones was recognized by the Friends of Yates in Kansas City, Kansas as a Black Man of Distinction.

He has been appointed to serve on several Kansas State Department of Education committees and initiatives to improve conditions and opportunities for educators and students.

Dr. Jones has a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Kansas and a Master of Science in Teaching Certification from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. Dr. Jones completed his Ed.D. in District Level Leadership at the University of Kansas.

Dr. Jones is married to his college sweetheart, Kim (Guthrie) Jones, and they have five amazing children together.
