Proposed 2027-2028 Boundary Changes

KCKPS is reviewing proposed school boundary changes that could affect where students attend school beginning in the 2027–2028 school year.

These recommendations come from the District Boundary Committee, which has been studying enrollment patterns across our district. The goal is to create school boundaries that:

Balance student enrollment across schools
Align enrollment with each building’s capacity
Improve efficiency, equity, and long-term sustainability

We know boundary changes are a big decision for families. This page outlines the proposed recommendations and provides information on upcoming public forums where you can learn more and share your feedback.

Proposed Changes

The proposed boundary changes are designed to balance enrollment across all grade levels, align feeder patterns with high school clusters, and prepare for new school buildings set to open in 2027–2028. At the high school level, adjustments would reduce overcrowding at Wyandotte and boost enrollment at Schlagle. Middle school changes prepare for the new Argentine and Central buildings while easing enrollment at Carl B. Bruce. For elementary schools, the plan relieves crowding at several sites and transitions students into a new school that will replace Noble Prentis, Silver City, and potentially New Stanley. Together, these changes impact students districtwide while ensuring schools are used efficiently, equitably, and sustainably.

High School Boundary Changes

To better balance enrollment across our high schools, the proposed boundary changes would shift some elementary schools into new feeder patterns. These adjustments aim to reduce Wyandotte High School’s enrollment, increase Schlagle High School’s enrollment, and keep each school within its ideal capacity range. The changes also prioritize stronger feeder alignment, improved transportation routes, and neighborhood cohesion, with an estimated impact on about 243 incoming ninth-grade students.

Decrease Wyandotte High enrollment (committee goal of 1,600 students or less)
- Current enrollment is over 1,900 students (~110% utilized)
Increase Schlagle High enrollment (committee goal of 1,000 students or more)
- Current enrollment is less than 900 students (~80% utilized)
Maintain as much of a complete feeder as possible (prioritize logical breaks)
Improve transportation and neighborhood cohesiveness in boundaries

- Wyandotte High enrollment forecasted to be around 1,550 students
- Schlagle High enrollment forecasted to be around 1,050 students
Approximately 243 high school students (grade 9) impacted in this boundary adjustment

Middle School Boundary Changes

For middle schools, the proposed boundary changes prepare for the opening of new Argentine and Central buildings while addressing schools that are over capacity, such as Carl B. Bruce Middle. The adjustments align feeder patterns with the high school clusters, balance enrollment across schools, and ensure all middle schools fall within their ideal utilization range. About 346 incoming sixth-grade students would be impacted, including 70 who will attend one of the new schools.

Elementary School Boundary Changes

At the elementary level, the proposed boundary changes plan for a new school opening in 2027–2028 that will combine Noble Prentis, Silver City, and possibly New Stanley boundaries. These changes also help relieve overcrowding at several schools currently above capacity and realign feeder patterns with the high school clusters. In total, about 617 K–2 students would be impacted, with roughly half moving to the new elementary school.
