ESSER Funds

ESSER stands for Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief. It is included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, and is intended to provide emergency relief funds to address the impact of COVID-19 on schools. ESSER funds are also intended to be used by Local Educational Agencies for preventing, preparing for, and responding to COVID-19.

Amount: $8,432,728

Deadline for Spending: September 30, 2022

ESSER II

Amount: $36,708,777

Deadline for Spending: September 30, 2023

ESSER III

Amount: $82,500,802

Deadline for Spending: September 30, 2024

Allowable ESSER Expenses

ESSER I

Activities authorized by ESEA of 1965 (ex. expand Title I programs, lower class sizes)
Coordination of preparedness & response efforts
Provide principals & leaders with resources to address individual school needs
Addressing unique needs of low-income, students, those with disabilities, minority, experiencing homelessness, and foster care, including outreach and service delivery to meet needs of each population
Developing/implementing procedures and systems to improve preparedness and response efforts
Staff training and PD around virus mitigation
Purchasing supplies to sanitize and clean facilities
Planning for, coordinating, implementing activities during long-term closures
Purchasing additional technology to aid in regular, substantive interaction between students and classroom instructors
Providing mental health services & supports
Planning & implementing activities related to summer learning & supplemental after school programs
Other activities necessary to maintain operation of and continuity of services

Acquisition of real property or modular classrooms
