The campus principal will be the point of contact with any law enforcement agency. The principal has been given guidelines and directions on who to contact at Central Office.

In accordance with KCKPS Board Policy JBH, JCAC, and FERPA Policies JR and JRB,

the administration is committed to upholding and protecting the rights of every student to attend a public school regardless of immigration status (see U.S Supreme Court, Plyler v. Doe, 1982). This includes protecting the privacy of all student information under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act which prohibits the release of information without parent or guardian permission.

KCKPS remains committed to ensuring the education and safety of all students. All students have a constitutionally protected right to receive an education regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, national origin or immigration status.

KCKPS School Counselor, Social Workers, and other support staff are available to students and families. Please contact your school for information on how to access these supports .

The school administrator or counselor will attempt to contact the parents, guardians, or emergency contacts on record. We ask that all families go to their parent portal in Infinite Campus (IC) to ensure they have all parent information and non-parent emergency contacts updated. 

After several unsuccessful attempts by the campus administrator or counselor to reach a parent or emergency contact, the district will attempt to locate the student’s family members with the authority to take custody of the student.

The district has compiled a list of resources to help families or those who are in need of such services.

No, staff cannot assist families with completing legal documents, but will provide information to services or resources that are available to assist them.  

We understand that families may feel fear an concern, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. While schools must follow state attendance laws and absences for this reason cannot be excused, we are to support you.

If you have any concerns, we encourage you to reach out to your school principal for guidance and resources. We want to reaffirm that our schools are safe and we encourage students to come to school.

If you see ICE in your neighborhood, you can: observe from a safe distance, document what you see (like license plates or agent details), and if you feel comfortable, inform community organizations or legal support groups about their presence; importantly, do not interfere with any potential ICE operations, and always prioritize your personal safety. 

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protects the United States from the cross-border crime and illegal immigration that threaten national security and public safety. To carry out that mission, ICE focuses on smart immigration enforcement, preventing terrorism and combating transnational criminal threats.

• ICE does not conduct targeted enforcement operations at schools.
• If ICE is present at a school, it is likely for public safety reasons, such as responding to active threats.
• Arrests at or near schools are avoided when possible. If an arrest occurs near a school, it is likely incidental, such as a suspect driving into a school parking lot while fleeing.

• If ICE arrests a parent, they make efforts to coordinate with family members for child custody.
• If no emergency contacts are available, social services or the school
• Administration is contacted to ensure the child's welfare.

• If a school employee has a violent criminal history, ICE would coordinate with school officials and law enforcement to conduct an arrest in a manner that minimizes disruption.
