Air Force Junior ROTC Hold 9/11 Observance Ceremony
More than 230 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets gathered in front of Washington High School to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11. The solemn ceremony took place Friday morning, September 9.
While student cadets stood in formation, their peers raised the American Flag and recounted the tragic moments which occurred across our beloved country. It was followed by a young cadet who led the squad and the crowd in the reciting of the National Anthem. The ceremony was then capped off with a cadet playing Taps.
“The ceremony itself is a way for our cadets to honor those that gave their lives in the service of others on 9/11, and since then,” said Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) USAF Senior Aerospace Science Instructor Patrick McCormack.
Moments before the ceremony began, KCKPS Superintendent Dr. Anna Stubblefield, KCKPS Board of Education President Randy Lopez, and Washington High Principal Cole Amaya inspected the cadets. It was part of a ceremonial inspection that gave district leadership a visual perspective of the District Chain of Command.
This is the 17th year cadets from Washington High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC have taken part in the 9/11 ceremony.
