Technical Education Center
High School enrollment at the Technical Education Center is open to juniors and seniors and requires approval by both the home high school and the Technical Education Center (TEC). Approved high school students can dual-enroll at KCKCC-TEC. This means student earn high school credit toward high school graduation and receive KCKCC credits toward completion of a TEC postsecondary skill training program. Completion of a TEC program leads to employment or addition education.
Tuition and course fees may be paid by the State of Kansas and the home school district. Check with your school counselor for details. Some programs have costs for uniforms, tools or consumable materials which are paid for the by the student and become the property of the student. Course materials must be purchased by the time class begins and are subject to change without notice.
Attendance, attitude, grades, and recommended reading and math levels are evaluated before student enroll in a TEC program to determine if they can handle the curriculum and meet the employment demands of the industry.
Students must complete a KCKCC online Application for Admission, a questionnaire, and a high school Technical Education Enrollment Recommendation Form before being admitted to TEC. Some programs require minimum scores on the reading portion of the Accuplacer. If the student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), it must accompany the application and enrollment forms.
KCKCC TEC Student Expectations
- Attendance is vital for successful skill development. KCKCC policy states a student may be dropped after 5-10 absences in a semester depending upon the program requirements.
- Attendance is expected at TEC whenever KCKCC is in session. This includes days when the home high school is not in session. There are no excused or unexcused absences at KCKCC.
- Continuation of enrollment for the spring semester may be denied if the KCKCC grade point average drops below a 2.00 cumulative GPA or an unsatisfactory grade is earned in a required pre-requisite course.
- Expectations of student behavior at TEC follow the policies outlined in the KCKCC Student Handbook. Failure to adhere to KCKCC policies may result in dismissal.
Things Parents/Students Should Consider

Program Completion
Health Careers and Nail Technology students can earn enough TEC credits to complete their training during one semester of attendance (depending on attendance and class performance.) To complete most TEC programs, high school graduates return to TEC as full-time postsecondary students to finalize training. Completers are awarded a KCKCC certificate and are deemed employable.
