Is the 2025 Summer Learning Program the same as our previous year's Summer Learning Program?
The 2025 program will follow a similar structure to last year’s, with funding provided through a grant from KSDE. Due to limited funding, invitations are extended only to individuals and their families who meet the grant eligibility requirements.
If building capacity is exceeded, some families may be placed on a waitlist. Waitlist priority will be determined within each building based on the time the invitation is accepted.
Families will be notified on May 6 whether their child’s spot is confirmed or if they have been placed on the waitlist.
What is the criteria for students to attend the Summer Learning Program?
All K-8 students can attend the Summer Learning Program!
What does the Summer Learning Program look like for High School Students?
The Summer Learning Program will be offered to high school students that need credit recovery. In order to determine if your student meets this criteria, please reach out to your students' high school directly.
How do I accept my student(s)’ summer learning invitation?
You will accept your student(s)’ invitation through Infinite Campus Parent Portal once you receive your invitation letter or call.
What if I do not have or remember my Infinite Campus login?
If you do not have an Infinite Campus portal account or do not remember your password, please reach out to your home school.
Is there a cost for my child to attend the summer learning program?
No.
I received a letter saying my student should attend the Summer Learning Program but he/she will not be able to attend. What should I do?
If you are a current K-12th grade student and you have received an invitation from your school site to attend, but your student will not be able to attend, please go into your Infinite Campus parent portal and click “Decline”. If additional assistance is needed, please contact your student’s home school.
Will transportation be provided?
Transportation for summer learning will be provided for each school site for eligible students. Information will be shared with families once routes have been determined and shared from the school sites. Transportation will be available from the home school for students who do not qualify for transportation to the school site.
*Please note, no additional routing will be done after the enrollment due date on May 17th.
Will food service be provided?
Breakfast and lunch will be free for K-12 students attending summer learning. Lunch and breakfast will continue to be served in accordance with current USDA nutritional standards.
What if my student needs special dietary modifications?
If your student(s) was approved for a special diet during SY 2024-2025, please indicate in the application to receive dietary modifications for summer learning.
What will be the curriculum focus for my student during summer learning?

Will my high school student be able to continue in credit recovery courses during the month of July?
Yes, students who began credit recovery courses in June and need to continue into July will be able to complete their courses virtually.
Is bus transportation provided for my high school student?
Bus transportation will be available for all high school students that meet eligibility.
Will Kidzone be offered to my students during the summer?
This will be offered for all elementary students at certain school sites. More information will be provided in the near future regarding this program.
My student takes prescribed medications daily at school. Will my student still receive their medication as scheduled?
Yes, your student will continue to receive their prescribed medication as scheduled during school hours. A medication administration consent form from a parent or guardian, a physician’s written order for prescription medications, detailing the name of the medication, dosage, time, and method of administration should be provided to the school nurse. All medication must be provided in the original, properly labeled container. Medication is to be brought in by the parent. Students are not allowed to carry medication. For further details, parents should consult the school nurse.
My student has a 504 plan during the regular school year. Will my student still receive accommodations outlined in that plan?
Yes, general education staff will have access to the 504 plan and offer the accommodations and supports noted.
My child receives Special Education services based on the IEP during the regular school year AND were not found eligible as determined by his/her/their IEP team for Special Education Extended School Year (ESY). Will my student be able to participate in General Education Summer School and ESY?
Yes, if they meet the criteria outlined by the State grant. Students with disabilities may attend Summer Learning offered through general education with accommodations and modifications only. They will attend with general education peers and will not have access to a special education direct service. Summer School staff will be provided the student’s IEP-at-a-Glance, so general educators may provide accommodations and/or modifications outlined in the IEP. SPED scenario: My student has ESY direct services resource/SLC (pull-out) and speech language therapy and will attend Summer School with their general education peers. How will those services be delivered?
Resource/SLC Teachers and Related Service Providers (RSPs like Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, SPED Social Workers, Physical Therapists) will provide direct services at Hazel Grove Elementary (Grs.K -5) or Gloria Willis Middle (Grs. 6-12). Students will be transported roundtrip by district or contracted vehicles between the Summer Learning and ESY sites.
Will students enrolled in SPED specialized programs receive ESY services?
Yes, students enrolled in SPED specialized programs (i.e., Autism/STEPS, Life Skills/SAILS, Behavior Support/BSC and Medically Fragile SAILS) will receive those services at designated ESY locations according to their IEPs and grade levels. Please contact your child’s special education case manager if you have any questions about ESY service delivery.
My student receives Special Education services during the regular school year in a specialized program setting such as SAILS/Lifeskills, STEPS/Autism AND qualified for SPED ESY services noted in the IEP. How will I know where my student will attend to receive those services?
If your child’s school IEP team determined that your child would attend Extended School Year (ESY) for Specialized Programs, he or she will receive those special education services at one of the following locations based on the program, grade level and IEP ESY needs:
- Bethel Early Childhood Center (All EC SPED direct services and specialized programs)
- Hazel Grove Elementary (Elementary, K-5: Medically Fragile, Life Skills/SAILS, Autism/STEPS, Behavior Support Class/BSC, SLC/Resource)
- Bridges/Wyandot Academy (Elementary, K-5: Autism/STEPS, Bridges)
- Gloria Willis Middle (Secondary, Grades 6-12: Medically Fragile, Life Skills/SAILS, Autism/STEPS, Behavior Support Class/BSC, SLC/Resource; Related services, such as OT/PT/SLP will be provided only at ESY sites)
If you have additional questions about services, please contact your child’s special education case manager.
SPED scenario: My child will receive SPED Speech-Language services for 30 minutes each week during ESY. I would like to transport my child roundtrip. Is that allowed?
Yes, parents always have the option of voluntarily providing transportation. In this case, parent(s) are asked to arrive 5 minutes before the session begins to ensure the child is available to start services on time. Then, the parent(s) or designated adult remain onsite in a designated waiting area in the building or nearby so the child can leave as soon as direct services conclude.
My student receives ESOL services. Will there be ESOL services provided during summer sessions?
Yes, ESOL services will be provided at elementary and middle school during the summer school sessions. If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Multilingual Education and Services at 913-627-5626.
When will transportation information go out for the Summer Learning Program?
Bus information will go out to all families on Tuesday, May 28th via Bright Arrow Message.
If I have enrolled my student(s) when does Summer Learning begin?
Summer Learning will take place for 4.5hrs Monday-Thursday from June 2-26th. For detailed hours, please take a look at our Available School Sites Tab.
Summer Learning will be closed in Observance of Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
