The mission of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Police Department is to establish a safe and secure learning environment for our future leaders to learn, grow and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Established in 2014, the KCKPS Police Department provides a full array of professional law enforcement services to the school district community. In addition to traditional police roles such as patrol and investigations, KCKPS Police Officers are also committed to prevention, intervention and education while focusing on building positive relationships with our youth and community partners.

KCKPS Police Officers receive extensive training from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). Officers also receive specialized School Resource Officer training provided by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), as well as continuing education on topics such as juvenile law, crisis intervention, de-escalation, diversity, and community policing.

Officers are fully certified by the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training (KS-CPOST). District officers possess the same law enforcement authority as other police agencies pursuant to Kansas State Statutes and local laws. The department also employs non-certified Campus Officers and School Safety Associates to assist with protection of students, staff and visitors.
