Social Emotional Learning

Two students smile for the camera while at school.

Social-emotional learning focuses on a student’s emotions, attitude and behavior. The goal of teaching social-emotional learning is to provide our students with the skills needed to be aware of how they feel, manage themselves, interact positively with adult and classmates, and to set positive goals for their life. By teaching social-emotional learning along with other subjects like math, science, English, social studies, fine arts and P.E., we can help our students have the tools needed to be successful in school, and in their future college and careers. Parents can help their child’s social-emotional growth by trying these four tips:

  1. Help your child solve problems
  2. Let your child make mistakes, and then talk to them about why the mistake happened
  3. Help your child take deep breaths when they are upset
  4. Take your child to community events
