Visual and Performing Arts
The Kansas City Kansas Public Schools Fine Arts Department offers a comprehensive fine arts education for all students in kindergarten through grade 12, through course offerings in visual art, music, theatre, and dance. Our staff of professional educators delivers balanced, rigorous instruction designed to help students fulfill their individual, artistic potential. The fine arts team provides all students the opportunity to explore expression, imagination, and creativity through the visual and performing arts and prepares learners to be successful in a global, 21st-century society.
The school-based curriculum is enriched by additional programming for all students through community partnerships with many metropolitan organizations including The Lyric Opera of Kansas City, The Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey, The Coterie Theatre, The Kansas City Repertory Theatre, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Extended instruction opportunities enhance learning for student performers interested in theatre, choir, band, orchestra, jazz, mariachi, harp, or dance through performance opportunities in any of the district's many honor ensembles. Visual art students are showcased in several area art shows including the annual Beyond the Classroom exhibit, where student artwork is displayed in the offices of many of our Kansas City, Kansas businesses.
