Student Support Programs
Through compassionate staff, innovative programs, and community partnerships, Student Support Programs ensures that every student feels seen, supported, and ready to learn.
The Student Support Programs Department, part of the Division of Student Services and Family Support, provides social-emotional, mental-health, and wraparound services to help every Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools student thrive.
This department oversees our district’s behavioral social workers, who support students and staff in building safe, caring, and trauma-informed school environments. It also manages several key initiatives and services:
- KidZone, our before- and after-school care program that offers engaging, structured enrichment activities,
- McKinney-Vento Services, which provide resources and advocacy for students and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability, including unaccompanied youth.
- Prevention and Resilience, which promotes student wellness through education, awareness, and early intervention efforts.

KCKPS is proud to be recognized at the state level for this important work. The district received the first-ever Kansans Can Gold Award for Social Emotional Learning and earned a Silver Award the following year, reflecting our commitment to supporting the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.
