Payroll and benefits are included in the business office so every employee of KCKPS is impacted by our department. Accounting functions, budget creation, purchasing approval along with state, local, and federal reporting requirements are completed within the department. Our team ensures compliance in all the areas we are accountable for.

2026–2027 Revenue Neutral Rate and Budget Hearing Update
The District has revised its proposed 2026–2027 budget and has issued a second public notice
for a revised budget hearing on September 8, 2026.
At that hearing, the revised budget will be reviewed and considered for adoption by the Board of Education.
August 25, 2026 — Revenue Neutral Rate Hearing
The Board of Education will hold the previously scheduled public hearing on August 25, 2026, at
5:00 p.m. to hear testimony from taxpayers regarding the District’s intention to exceed the
Revenue Neutral Rate (RNR) for the 2026–2027 budget.
The hearing will take place during the regularly scheduled Board meeting in the Board Room at
the Central Office, located at 2010 N. 59th Street, Kansas City, KS 66104.
Taxpayers may attend and provide oral or written comments. Following public comment and
during the hearing, the Board will conduct a roll call vote on the resolution to exceed the
Revenue Neutral Rate.

August 25, 2026 — Annual Budget Hearing
Immediately following the conclusion of the RNR hearing and vote, the Board will proceed with
the originally scheduled 2026–2027 Annual Budget Hearing.
In accordance with Kansas budget law (K.S.A. 79-2929), taxpayers will have an opportunity to
provide comments regarding the proposed budget and use of District funds.
The Board will not vote to adopt the originally published budget on August 25. Because the
District has revised the proposed budget and issued a new public notice, the Board will wait to
consider formal adoption until after the revised budget hearing on September 8, 2026.

September 8, 2026 — Revised Budget Hearing and Adoption
A second public notice has been issued for a revised 2026–2027 budget hearing on September
8, 2026. During this hearing, the revised proposed budget will be presented, and taxpayers will
have an opportunity to provide public comment. Following the closing of the hearing, the Board
will transition into their regularly scheduled meeting agenda to formally vote on passing a
resolution to adopt the final budget (and any required property tax or revenue-neutral rate
adjustments).
