Transfer Permits

Permit applications for the 2026-2027 school year are now closed.

All students are assigned to schools based on their home address. Students may attend school outside their boundaries by requesting one of the following student transfer permits: 

  1. Childcare Transfer Permit - Available for resident student in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. Parents/Caregivers must submit employment verification before a childcare transfer permit will be granted.  Childcare transfers are not available for grades 9–12.
  2. In-District Transfer Request (Request to Enroll) - These transfer requests are granted only under special circumstances.
  3. ROTC Transfer Permit (for Washington High School Only) - High school students who do not live in the Washington HS attendance boundaries but are applying to participate in the ROTC program.
  4. Employee Non-Resident - Available to USD500 employees who live outside the district boundaries.

Permits are valid for one academic year and may be conditional based on the following criteria:

  1. Truancy:  7 days or more of unexcused absences in the school year.
  2. Behavior/Discipline: 5 or more Class II and/or Class III infractions in the school year.  Please refer to the KCKPS Student Code of Conduct for more information.

**If your student is on the truancy list for poor attendance, they will not be eligible for a permit for the 26-27 school year.

Permit applications close on June 30th. Parent/guardians will receive notice of their permit status shortly after that.  

Instructions for Application through Infinite Campus

To locate the application, login to the parent portal, go to the school store and select the school. You will then click shop and select view under Transfer Permit Request. Next, select the student and click the Blue Link Transfer Permit Request. Click "create form."
