The KCKPS Sports Network Officially Launches

The launch of the new KCKPS Sports Network is off and running.
The network aired its very first varsity boys basketball game between Sumner Academy and J.C. Harmon on Tuesday, February 6.
Three days later, a varsity girls basketball matchup between Sumner Academy and Washington hit the airwaves.

The new sports network is a partnership between Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and Kansas City-based MSTC Sports Production Company.
The channel will focus on live and recorded sports programming that will feature each high school’s athletics program in the district.

The first-year of the network will serve as a pilot program, highlighting a limited number of boys and girls conference basketball games. The district hopes to expand to other sports in the future.

“What an amazing opportunity the KCKPS Sports Network will provide our scholar-athletes and coaches. It will be our avenue to showcase all the hard work, time, and effort our scholar-athletes and coaches commit to continued growth and development necessary to improve the competitive product throughout our district,” said KCKPS Athletic Director Samuel Simmons, Sr.

The sports network will also provide an opportunity for KCKPS students to learn about the sports broadcasting industry through our Diploma+ program. Students will be able to gain knowledge in sports television production, including on-air talent, sideline reporting, camera operations, video editing, and more.

KCKPS is known for its rich sports history and the new network will help continue to shine a light on the students and the athletic programs in the Kansas City, Kansas community. The new network will be part of a deep commitment to showcasing our young KCKPS student-athletes.
