The Boys Basketball Team at Carl B. Bruce Middle School Goes Undefeated

The 2022-2023 Boys Basketball team at Carl B. Bruce Middle School will forever be known as the squad that went undefeated.

The team led by first-year coach Terrance Flowers won all eight games this season. Going undefeated wasn’t an easy task. Coach Flowers says it was the team’s defense that helped propel them to every victory.

“Our boys took pride in playing suffocating defense. They not only wanted to win, but they didn’t want the other teams to score. We would have to call the boys off because they were so relentless,” said Flowers.

The team also saw its share of struggles during the season. One of their biggest hurdles was practice time. At the beginning of the season there was plenty of time to practice. But as the season wore on, practice time became less and less. “Staying focus as the team started to win was something the team had to overcome,” said Flowers.

Coach Flowers says the undefeated season was a team effort. He credits his assistant coach Ben Archaki for keeping him organized and on track during the season. He also says Principal Stacey Chatmon, Assistant Principals Rebecca Estes, Katie Records, and Lorraine Williams all had a hand in helping the team succeed.

All in all, the young men on this squad are very proud of their accomplishment. “We wanted to be undefeated. It was a fun season knowing we accomplished our goal,” said eighth grade student Jacorey Grey.

“We are champions and will have a banner in the gym forever, said eight grade student Anthony Taylor.

Congratulations to the undefeated Tigers.
