Watch: A New Chapter Begins for Central Middle School - September 25, 2026

A new chapter is officially underway for Central Middle School.
Today (Sept. 25), we celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Central Middle School, made possible through the 2024 bond.
In November of 2024, KCK voters overwhelmingly approved a $180 million bond issue to help build several new schools, including Central Middle School.
This investment in our schools is helping create modern learning spaces for our students and staff, and we’re excited to see this vision become a reality.
The new state-of-the-art school will be approximately 125,000 square-feet, and will have the capacity to hold 900-950 students.
Additional features will include:
- New tech-enhanced classrooms and modern learning spaces for hands-on experiences.
- State-of-the-art career and technical education facilities with industry-relevant resources.
- Upgraded campus security with advanced monitoring and safety protocols.
The cost of the project: $66,368,900.00
The new Central Middle School which will be located near 11th and Riverview Ave., is set to open in Fall 2028, and with a new school comes a new identity: Central Middle School is becoming the Bears!
Thank you to LM2, McCownGordon and Hollis + Miller for helping bring this project to life. We can’t wait to see what’s ahead.
