KSDE Challenge Awards

The KSDE Challenge Awards were created to honor schools that performed well on the state assessments and had high percentages of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those who live in poverty and often members of a minority group.

KSDE honored 7 KCKPS schools - Sumner Academy of Arts & Sciences, Emerson Elementary School, Bertram Caruthers Elementary School, John Fiske Elementary School, Mark Twain Elementary School, Thomas A. Edison Elementary School, Arrowhead Middle School to receive The Challenge Award. These seven schools are part of 100 schools in the state selected to receive this award for outstanding achievement on the 20-21 math and reading assessment results.

KSDE Commissioner's Award

The KSDE Commissioner’s Award recognizes those districts that outperform their predicted postsecondary effectiveness rate above a .40 standard deviation. A district’s predicted postsecondary effectiveness rate factors in the degree to which identified risk factors known to depress effectiveness rates, such as poverty, chronic absenteeism and student mobility, are present in a district’s student population. KCKPS earned the 20-21 Star Recognition Awards Program honor and was also recognized with the Commissioner’s Award with Honors for exceptional work to implement systems that lead to positive academic outcomes.
