Trick-or-Treating and Turning Pages: Earl Watson Jr. Early Childhood Center Celebrates Family Fun

The Earl Watson Jr. Early Childhood Center recently celebrated Family Fun Night with trick-or-treating, family fun and the kickoff of an exciting new book program.
On Wednesday, October 28, 2026, nearly a hundred families dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes stopped by the school to participate in the fun-filled event.
Families trunk-or-treated at nearly a dozen stations in the school’s parking lot.
One of the stations included representatives from the Turn the Page KC organization, which is a program that helps ensure children gain the literacy skills they need to create a lifetime of opportunity.
Last year, Turn the Page KC gave each student a new book to read. This year, the organization will give students a new book each month for the entire school year.
“So they are books that their families can share. It builds up the home library so that our kids are getting some literacy skills at an early age,” said Earl Watson Jr. Early Childhood Center principal Stacy Maxwell.
Thanks to a grant, every student will receive a new book each month throughout the year, helping build a love of reading that lasts well beyond the classroom.
