Nearly 1,200 KCKPS Students Explore Future Opportunities at Annual College Fair

Hundreds of students from Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools took one step closer to planning their futures after graduation.
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, nearly 1,200 high school juniors and seniors from six KCKPS high schools attended the district’s annual College Fair at Homefield KC.
The event featured nearly 100 representatives from colleges and universities, the armed forces, technical and trade schools, and community organizations, giving students the opportunity to explore a wide range of options for life after high school.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions about campus life, school culture, scholarships, and internship programs as they considered which paths might best align with their interests and goals.
For students and families who may find it difficult to visit college campuses, the fair also provides a convenient way to connect directly with representatives and learn more about their options.
“There are so many places where our students can go and really find what interests them and what’s going to make their futures bigger and brighter. We hope that they find something here today,” said Assistant Director of Diploma+ Lisa Martinez.
The fair featured representatives from the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), as well as a semi-truck and trailer provided by Johnson County Kansas Community College for individuals interested in obtaining their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were also represented, giving students an opportunity to explore institutions where they may see themselves reflected and supported.
“We make a good effort to ensure our students see themselves within a postsecondary world. Having our HBCUs present today shows our students that whatever they’re trying to achieve is possible and there are places and spaces for them to belong,” said Martinez.
This year marked the tenth year of the district’s College Fair. Through the Diploma+ program, the district tracks students who attend the fair and surveys graduates to learn where they eventually enroll in college.
The College Fair is part of the district’s ongoing commitment to ensuring every student has access to opportunities, meaningful experiences, and valuable connections as they explore their options and plan for life after graduation.
