Congratulations to the April Students of the Month

Kevin Alexander III, Early Childhood Student

Kevin has been a student at KCKECC for two years, and throughout that time, he has consistently impressed our staff with his genuine kindness and empathy. He is the first to notice when a peer is alone at recess, and he never hesitates to invite them to join in play, always with a joyful spirit. Kevin is also quick to encourage his friends when they feel shy or uncertain. For example, one day as he was skipping down the hallway, a friend mentioned he didn’t know how to skip. Without missing a beat, Kevin took his friend’s hand, cheered him on with a heartfelt “You can do it!”, and patiently showed him the steps. Soon, they were both skipping together, smiles on their faces.
Kevin’s positive attitude brightens every day at KCKECC. He greets others with a cheerful “Hey best friend!”, delights everyone with his dance moves, and is known for telling the best knock-knock jokes. As Kevin prepares to move on to kindergarten next year, his presence will be greatly missed by students and staff alike. We are proud to nominate Kevin as Student of the Month—not only to recognize the impact of his kindness and positivity, but also to encourage him to carry that same spirit forward as he continues his educational journey.
Jean Romero Hernandez, Elementary

Jean is the kind of student every teacher dreams of having in their class. From the moment he steps into the room, it's clear that he is dedicated to his learning. He makes good choices when others are not and his hard work shines through in everything he does. Jean listens intently during lessons, soaking in every bit of information and always eager to learn more. When faced with new challenges, he takes risks, never shying away from trying something unfamiliar or pushing himself beyond his comfort zone. It’s this willingness to step out of his comfort zone that has contributed greatly to his incredible progress in language development.
Jean takes great pride in his work, paying attention to detail and striving to produce his best every time. His improvement over time is a testament to his persistence and positive attitude. What truly sets Jean apart, though, is his positive attitude. Despite facing challenges, he never lets doubt get in the way of his success persevering to learn the English language. He approaches every task with an optimistic mindset, ready to learn and grow from his mistakes. His enthusiasm for learning is contagious, and it creates an uplifting atmosphere in the classroom.
Jean’s growth as a student is truly inspiring, and it would be a dream come true to have a classroom full of students like him. His positivity, willingness to learn, and unwavering confidence make him an exceptional student and an absolute joy to teach.
Genesis Canales Mendoza, Middle School

“Having had the pleasure of working with Genesis as both a student and teammate, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable qualities that make her an exceptional candidate for this award.”
From her first year on the soccer team, Genesis demonstrated maturity and leadership, earning the respect of her peers who voted her team captain—a rare achievement for a first-year student. Academically, she excels with diligence and integrity, consistently achieving high grades while inspiring others to strive for their best. Her positive personality uplifts classmates and teammates, fostering a supportive and motivated environment.
Genesis embodies thoughtfulness, care, and humility. She offers academic support, encourages teammates during practice, and is a trusted confidant among peers. Her grace and strong sense of community are evident in her significant contributions to school and team life.
For these reasons, Mr. Schuweiler recommends Genesis Canales Mendoza for Student of the Month. She exemplifies leadership, academic excellence, and compassion—qualities that reflect the spirit of Arrowhead and USD 500.
Maycie Daniels, High School

Maycie is pursuing the Teaching and Training Pathway, with plans to become a preschool or elementary teacher. I have had the pleasure of teaching Maycie in both Family Studies and Educational Leadership classes.
In the fall of 2024, Maycie was among forty students who helped create a resource room at Washington High School called the Cat’s Closet. This space provides clothing, toiletries, food, and school supplies for students in need. Maycie served as a project lead for the data collection team, ensuring that accurate data informed all decisions regarding Cat’s Closet. She worked diligently to make the surveys accessible in students’ native languages and created posters with QR codes to promote the surveys and share information about the resource.
Cat’s Closet officially opened on December 2, 2025. Since then, Maycie has continued volunteering regularly, helping clean, organize, and hang up clothing. She is constantly setting new goals to expand the reach and impact of Cat’s Closet for our student body.
Recently, Washington High School welcomed a refugee family from Africa, whose children speak very little English. One of the students joined my Family Studies class, and I asked Maycie to assist her in setting up her iPad. Maycie went above and beyond, helping the student set the device to her native language and ensuring she felt welcomed and supported during her transition to high school in the United States. Maycie also began helping her with class assignments.
Upon learning that the new student and her younger siblings had very few clothes, Maycie introduced her to Cat’s Closet. She helped the student find clothing, backpacks, toiletries, and food for herself and her siblings, even assisting her in carrying the items to the bus. Maycie coordinated with the bus driver to ensure the student could be dropped off at home, sparing her from walking two blocks with heavy bags.
Maycie’s compassion and leadership are remarkable for someone only 15 years old. She is a natural leader and teacher, always eager to help others. If you ever see her name on a job application for this district, hire her.
