Washington High School’s 2023 Football Season Continues to Reach New Heights

As the 2023 football season slowly comes to a close, the Washington High School squad continues to make history.
The Wildcats handily beat the Wyandotte Bulldogs 48-24 in their matchup on Saturday, October 7. It wasn’t the final score that stood out in this game.
It was the fact that Washington went undefeated at home. That hasn’t happened for a Wildcat football team in more than 30 years.
Washington High School Head Football Coach Camron Smith couldn’t be happier for his team after going undefeated at home. “It feels amazing knowing these guys will carry these moments into their life believing that they can accomplish anything no matter how challenging it might be,” said Smith.
Currently, the team has a 4-2 record, after getting off to an impressive 3-0 start to the season. They have two games remaining on the schedule.
Coach Smith says his team is not done. Before the season began, they had several goals they wanted to achieve.
Those goals included going undefeated at home, winning the Meadowlark Conference title, winning a playoff game this season, and winning the team’s first-ever Divisional Plaque.
A loss to Atchison High School this year will prevent the squad from winning the Meadowlark Conference title, but Smith says there’s still plenty of opportunity to seize those other goals.
“There is still meat on the bone. There’s more history to be made, and we will celebrate it all at the end,” added Smith.
No matter the outcome of the rest of the season, the Washington Wildcats have laid the groundwork for future success.
“All in all, I am excited that we have a bright future. I'm so proud of our seniors for leading this team, but at the same time, I'm excited to see what our youngsters have in store in the coming years,” said Smith.
Coach Smith is also having a stellar year. He was recently named Coach of the Week by the Kansas City Chiefs.
